The Clark County Land Bank will soon celebrate “an important milestone” of the completion of phase one of its Euclid Street Park Project, according to Executive Director Ethan Harris.
The event will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 at 504 W. Euclid Ave. It will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the new basketball and pickleball courts that are now open for public use, remarks from local leaders and a city vs. county basketball game on the new court.
Construction on the park started in November 2025 and is part of a multi-level plan in the Engaged Neighborhood on the southside of Springfield. Spanning over half an acre, the new fully accessible park features basketball and pickleball courts, with a playground, play equipment, and swing sets.
“This event represents an important milestone in a larger neighborhood revitalization effort … It is also an opportunity to recognize the collective investment that has brought this project to this point and to share the vision for what comes next,” Harris said.
Phase one improvements include the construction of new basketball and pickleball courts, “creating new recreational opportunities for residents while transforming a formerly underutilized property into a valuable community asset,” Harris said.
The project was made possible through a $150,000 Community Development Block Grant from the city of Springfield, with the remaining project costs funded by the land bank.
“This project demonstrates what can happen when local governments, community organizations and residents work together to invest in neighborhoods and create opportunities for future generations,” Harris said.
“We are excited to celebrate what has been accomplished while also looking ahead to the next phase of improvements. This park is just one of many projects helping transform this neighborhood. What was once a collection of blighted industrial properties and safety concerns is being reimagined as a place for recreation, housing and community investment.”
The event will also highlight phase two of the project, which will include accessible playground equipment and additional family-oriented amenities. Bidding for the next phase is anticipated to begin within the next month, Harris said.
To date, $571,000 has been raised toward future phases of the park project. This effort has been supported by several community partners including the Springfield Foundation, Community Health Foundation, Crabill Family Foundation, the Clark County Land Bank and individual community members.
Harris said additional fundraising efforts are underway to help bring the full vision for the park to life.
Once the project is complete, it will be donated to the Clark County Park District.
